In this role, you'll be responsible for managing and advising on all indirect tax matters outside the United States, spanning Europe, UK, APAC, and other international markets. You'll work closely with our Global Indirect Tax team, compliance Lead and the broader tax team to develop and execute our international VAT/GST strategy as we scale our AI products globally.</p> <p>This is an exciting opportunity to join an AI safety company at the forefront of the industry and help build out our international indirect tax function from the ground up. You'll partner cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Product, and Go-to-Market teams to embed tax considerations into our global operations.</p> <h3><strong>Responsibilities</strong></h3> <p><strong>Advisory &amp; Planning</strong></p> <ul> <li>Provide VAT/GST advisory support on new product launches, pricing models, customer contracts, and go-to-market strategies across international markets</li> <li>Advise on the indirect tax implications of corporate restructuring, entity establishment, and intercompany arrangements</li> <li>Develop and maintain indirect tax positions and documentation for digital services across multiple jurisdictions</li> <li>Support tax-efficient structuring for infrastructure procurement and and reseller arrangements&nbsp;</li> <li>Monitor and assess the impact of regulatory changes, including EU VAT in the Digital Age, OECD initiatives, and local digital services tax developments</li> </ul> <p><strong>Compliance Support &amp; Collaboration</strong></p> <ul> <li>Work alongside the Global Indirect Tax Compliance Lead to support VAT/GST registration, filing, and compliance across 30+ jurisdictions</li> <li>Assist with customer classification (B2B vs B2C), and place of supply determinations</li> <li>Support audit defence and respond to queries from international tax authorities</li> <li>Collaborate with external advisors across jurisdictions to ensure accurate and timely compliance</li> </ul> <p><strong>Systems &amp; Process</strong></p> <ul> <li>Partner with Finance Systems to ensure proper tax configuration within ERP, billing platforms, and tax engines for international transactions</li> <li>Support testing and implementation of system changes affecting international indirect tax</li> </ul> <p><strong>Key Jurisdictions</strong></p> <ul> <li>EU (with particular focus on Ireland as primary billing entity), UK, Switzerland</li> <li>Australia, Japan, Singapore, and broader APAC</li> <li>Canada, Latin America and emerging markets as Anthropic expands</li> </ul> <h3><strong>You may be a good fit if you</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Have 8+ years of VAT/GST experience, with deep expertise in European and international indirect tax</li> <li>Possess strong technical knowledge of VAT rules for digital services, including place of supply, B2B/B2C distinctions, and reverse charge mechanisms</li> <li>Have experience in technology or SaaS companies, ideally with consumption-based, API, or subscription business models</li> <li>Are skilled at translating complex business models into clear tax positions and advice</li> <li>Can communicate complex tax concepts clearly to non-tax stakeholders across all levels</li> <li>Thrive in fast-paced environments and are comfortable building processes where none exist</li> <li>Ability to partner well with direct tax, transfer pricing and accounting personnel</li> <li>Are proactive, self-starting, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with a global team</li> <li>Have excellent project management skills and attention to detail</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Strong candidates may also have</strong></h3> <ul> <li>CTA, ATT, ACA, or equivalent professional tax qualification</li> <li>Experience with Big 4 or national accounting firm indirect tax practices</li> <li>Hands-on experience with tax technology solutions (Vertex, Avalara, Anrok, or similar)</li> <li>Experience with ERP and billing systems (Workday, NetSuite, Stripe)</li> <li>Experience managing relationships with tax authorities and handling audits</li> <li>Familiarity with customs duties, digital services taxes</li> </ul><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="description"><p>The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.&nbsp;</p> <p>For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.</p></div><div class="title">Annual Salary:</div><div class="pay-range"><span>€220.000</span><span class="divider">&mdash;</span><span>€220.000 EUR</span></div></div></div><div class="content-conclusion"><h2><strong>Logistics</strong></h2> <p><strong>Minimum education: </strong>Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience</p> <p><strong>Required field of study:&nbsp;</strong>A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience</p> <p><strong>Minimum years of experience: </strong>Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position</p> <p><strong>Location-based hybrid policy:</strong> Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time.
